Description
SNAP-8 (Acetyl Octapeptide-3) is a synthetic octapeptide analogue of Argireline, designed to investigate the neuromuscular junction mechanism underlying facial expression line formation. Its sequence Ac-EEMQRRADE targets the SNARE protein complex involved in synaptic vesicle fusion.
The mechanism under investigation involves competitive inhibition of SNARE complex assembly. The SNARE complex governs synaptic vesicle docking and fusion at the neuromuscular junction, initiating acetylcholine release and subsequent muscle contraction.
In vitro studies have examined SNAP-8 effects on catecholamine secretion from stimulated chromaffin cells, with dose-dependent inhibitory effects observed.
